South Korea’s state-run Korea Gas Corporation, KOGAS, is the largest LNG importer in the world and the nation’s sole LNG provider, operating four terminals across the country including the world’s largest capacity LNG receiving complex in Incheon. Having previously relied on other countries for the design of LNG storage tanks, in 1997 KOGAS-Tech initiated in-house development of LNG tank technologies. With the assistance of LUSAS engineering consultancy services, KOGAS-Tech has used LUSAS software throughout three phases of LNG tank development thus far, increasing tank capacity over the course of two decades from 140,000m³, to 200,000m³ and most recently 270,000m³. Completed in 2017, this latest addition to KOGAS LNG terminals was believed to be the largest above ground full containment LNG storage tank in the world at the time.
